Sorry, first I've heard of it.

    According to their "aboutus":

"... a smart, honest magazine on sex, with cliché-shattering prose and fiction as well as striking photographs of naked people that capture more than their flesh. "

A celebration of sex - perhaps from a woman's perspective; reminds me of Playgirl magazine.

      Darn!
You have to pay to see those "..striking photographs of naked people that capture more than their flesh."

Kind of like a slick, trendy porno site (back to play-girl/boy).

The singles side - however - is Spring Street networks. Available thru a lot of sites:

      www.springstreetnetworks.com/partners/

      A fairly popular dating site.

Nerve personals AKA The Onion personals AKA Salon personals AKA Modern Humorist personals. It's one company that various online magazines sign up with as affliates. Saves them the expense and hassle of setting up their own in-house personals.

So the subscriber base is a lot broader than just Nerve readers. There's actually a lot of cool people on there. I've met several friends through them (but no girlfriend...alas....) and I have found that the best way to get your ad answered is to just be yourself. They have a relatively creative questionnaire that makes it a lot easier to write an interesting ad. So don't be nervous.

I had joined Nerve from a pop-up ad, and I am not too sure about it. The first day on, I was contacted by someone. We emailed a bit, spoke on the phone and then had a date. During the date, she explained that she had recently had a nervous breakdown, but she was starting to feel better. NeXT! I was contacted by a second individual there, who I felt was really strange. I have not returned to Nerve. Maybe, this is simply problems encountered in the New York area, but Good Luck...

Misty, I am now using "Spring Street" ala Nerve personals exclusively, and have found some fabulous men this way. I give this site 3 thumbs up ;)

I agree Kat, Nerve (springstreet) by far seems to attract the free spirits and fun kids more so than the others. Also the credit system rocks!!! Way way better then getting hit for the monthly fee, 'specially if you aren't making connections. The Springstreet crowd is definitely more ecclectic. Good Luck Misty.

Yep, I've been using Springstreet Networks via Nerve.com for over a year and a half now, and I've met many wonderful people so far who've turned into fun dating excursions, fellow music enthusiasts, and fabulous new friends. I even became friends with my nextdoor neighbor that way.

And yeah, the credit system is what keeps me from using other sites like match.com and yahoo personals. Paying a monthly membership fee is for the birds. My handle on nerve is "splashtoast," by the way.

(copied from our post in "a list" thread, so skip it if you've read it)

    >>>

Our fave is definitely the Spring St Networks family of sites, originally launched by nerve (this is how we got hooked). Quality people--funky, artsy, different and very intelligent. All major pluses in our book. Of course, that all depends on location, and we are NY based, but the kind of sites they are attached to predetermine that kind of an audience (nerve, the onion, mediabistro, etc). Another plus: credits vs monthly charges. RUN like hell from monthly charges. They only inspire a "more bang for your buck" kind of mentality. We much prefer quality over quantity.

What the crazy Scorpio appreciates about nerve (say versus the generic and bland match): you can be upfront about being a couple looking for a person, or you can search for "either" male or female companions. match, to her cynical eyes, is too conventional and committment-oriented. What both of us believe is that if you're going to have fun with online dating, you can't make it about getting a ring on your finger. It's about connections and meeting wonderful people you'd otherwise never know. (But we'll save our theory for our website.)

I have had success meeting both women and men via Springstreet Networks. I have tried match.com but wasn't contacted by anyone. I think the two different sites attract different types of people.

Well, despite the fact that most women I contact on that site never even bother to respond when I write them, I have found that the ones who do respond are almost always worth talking to, and the time that I was messaged led to something very nice, if only temporary. I can't say that about any other pay site I've seen.

I have been doing the online dating thing for almost two years, and the only serious relationship that developed was with someone who contacted me through Nerve. Ultimately, it didn't work out, but I do think that the people there are more routinely interesting than any other site I've ran across.

Nothing to be nervous about. Creating your dating profile does and should take some time, care and patience.

Spring Street's networks are okay. If you like being among the liberal minded and far lefters of America, then the Nerve personals are a good start.

If you're looking for something a bit more tame and interactive try, Match.com, AmericanSingles or a free site like Cherish.com.

There's something out there for everyone.

    Good Luck
